A choreographic concert based on an idea by Anna Prohaska and Emanuele Soavi
Premiere 2March 25, 2024 Kölner Philharmonie
March 26, 2024 Stadttheater Schaffhausen / CH
The Kölner Philharmonie and Emanuele Soavi, an expert in the encounter between live music and contemporary dance, realized their first co-production in 2018: the chorale choreography #auferstanden with the vocal ensemble Cantus Cölln.
In FAÇADES, Emanuele Soavi incompany now meets the soprano Anna Prohaska, awarded for her unusually courageous concert programs, and the baroque specialists of the Lautten compagney BERLIN, who are adventurously exploring new ways of concert performance.
Starting from Monteverdi’s ‘Lamento della ninfa’, they use early Baroque vocal music (featuring: the great Renaissance composer Barbara Strozzi!) to create a universe of femininity, of survival strategies and deception, of passion, unconditional love and loneliness: A multi-faceted kaleidoscope of multi-layered miniatures, between revolutionary power and emotional extremes, between archaic myth and the oppressive present.
The early Baroque masterpieces are confronted with instrumental compositions by Philip Glass – also arranged for Baroque instruments.
