GEZEITEN (2022)
With the new creation URANUS BALL and a reprise of FLUT 1 the double bill GEZEITEN celebrated ‘Emanuele Soavi incompany – 10 years of dance 2012-2022’
FLUT 1
For the Beethoven anniversary in 2020/21, choreographer Emanuele Soavi and his ensemble continued their unusual artistic collaboration with the electronic composers Wolfgang Voigt and Stefan Bohne, the Duisburg Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Cologne Opera with the three-part project FLUT. The first part will now be developed into an independent piece.
Beethoven’s tireless drive for artistic renewal and his dissecting, even visionary view of the social and political movements of his era gave his work a seemingly inexhaustible energy, like a perpetual flood. The seven dancers are also exposed to this energy of perpetual change. In FLUT 1, they embark on a search for traces of what they are and what they want to become – individually and as a society. A playful journey of discovery begins, traditional patterns are adopted and shaken off again, new information and experiences create new dynamic constellations, which lie on top of each other layer by layer…
Two electronic compositions by Wolfgang Voigt and Stefan Bohne that were commissioned for this project set the musical framework. Alongside cellist Anja Schröder, the two sound artists also create a highly energetic connection between past, present and future, with relics from Beethoven’s work flashing up again and again attempting to momentarily fixate that which is fleeting and intangible.
In this way, music and dance meet on equal footing, entering into a direct dialogue with one another through the live performance of the sound artists.
URANUS BALL
This very dance-like concept, which focuses on Soavi’s specialized language of movement, is contrasted with a new piece in the anniversary program GEZEITEN, which will emphasize the analytical-conceptual side of Soavi’s work with a performative, pictorial approach. URANUS BALL is also dedicated to the energy of renewal, showing what is possible when we rid ourselves of old habits and fears and shape the present without compromise. The mythological template, the struggle for supremacy between male and female principle, shows a topicality in view of the current world situation that challenges us to question outdated role models and power structures and to place a radical emotionality alongside a radical body language.
